We love to hear birds singing, but they aren't just making music for fun! Birds use their songs as a way of talking to each other.

A bird's song is mostly used to say two things: "This is my territory, stay away!" to other birds of the same kind, or "Look at me, I'm a strong, healthy bird!" to attract a mate.

The Robin is famous for being one of the few birds in the UK that sings all year round—even in the freezing winter! They sing loudly to defend their garden territories, making sure other robins know exactly who is in charge.
