What does its name mean?
- Araneus — spiderLatin
- diadematus — wearing a crown or royal headbandLatin (diadema, 'diadem/crown')
This familiar autumn spider wears a bright white cross of spots on its back, like a little crown — and the name points straight to it, turning the spider's most noticeable marking into its title.
